Last month, a man was overjoyed when he discovered a $40,000 diamond ring on a Florida beach, and he immediately became a metal detector angel.
Joseph Cook spotted the ring buried in the sand at St. Augustine’s Hammock Beach and immediately posted a video of himself digging it out on his social media account in search of other people who may have lost rings.
‘No way, buddy,’ the 37-year-old can be heard exclaiming in disbelief. Check out that nasty guy. That’s real, people.”This is the biggest diamond I’ve ever discovered on the beach,’ says the discoverer.
When he went to the jewelers, they allegedly informed him the rare diamond set in a platinum band was worth $40,000, according to reports.
Joseph began receiving calls from an unknown number two weeks later. He initially disregarded them, but soon realized they may be the ring’s owners.
He joined a video conference with a couple from Jacksonville who had also lost a child.’Oh my God, I can’t believe that,’ the woman cried, breaking down in tears.
Three weeks after discovering it, Joseph returned the ring to its owners at the same beach in St. Johns County.
‘It felt amazing,’ he said. ‘This year, I’ve returned $60,000 in items, but nothing like this before.’
He stated he wasn’t bothered by having to return it, and that he’s looking for the owners of other rings he’s discovered in the past.
He even wears a necklace with around 25 rings on it in the hopes of returning them to their rightful owners.
‘Karma is always advantageous. I always return an item when I find something better, therefore I’m glad I was able to do so.
