With just a glimpse at social media and the evening’s news headlines, it is easy to conclude that people are deeply divided on numerous issues.
The pervasiveness of social media in society appears to have accentuated these stark differences in opinion and the frequently accompanying animosity.
At the annual Academy of Country Music Awards, Dolly gave a mesmerizing performance of her new single ‘World On Fire.’
It is abundantly obvious from the lyrics that the song is about society’s deep divisions and those who fan the flames of hatred and division.
Dolly mentions in the opening verse of the song that although she may not speak publicly on certain
issues, she remains informed and in contact. She adds that people are so passionate about every issue.
The second verse of the song poses the query, ‘When did we lose ‘In God we trust?’’ People on both sides of the political spectrum
have a tremendous amount of faith and trust in politicians, as if they can solve everything or anything.
‘I have no idea what to think of us.’
When did ‘In God We Trust” become ‘God Almighty, what are you going to do?’
In the second verse of the song, Dolly criticizes politicians for distorting the truth to fit their narrative and gain votes.
This current condition of division is the result of both historical and contemporary politicians’ avarice.
Dolly sings that those individuals would not recognize the truth if it bit them on the posterior.
Where have common decency, truth, and right and wrong gone? The new Dolly song depicts something that the majority
of people likely experience and see every day: the deep divisions on numerous issues and topics.
